Getting heated up doesn’t just affect our body, it also affects our temperament. Ever notice that people can get a bit more “heated” emotionally in the summertime? Heat can be the culprit for irritability, anger, and frustration.
Is your fuse shorter than usual? It could be a sign that you have an increase of the fire element in your system.
Signs of high fire and heat in the body include excessive body heat, sweating, sunburn, skin rashes, acne, gray hair, balding, heartburn, stomach acidity, ulcers, exhaustion and diarrhea. In the mind, this shows up as irritability, frustration, impatience, getting easily annoyed, short temperedness, competitiveness, egoism, envy, being quick-to-anger, etc.

If you find yourself or those around you a bit more heated and fiery than usual during this time of year, try out this super simple breathing technique to cool down your body and that agitated mind.
- Make a circle with your lips.
- Draw air into your mouth for a count of 4.
- Close your mouth.
- Exhale for a count of 4 through your nose.
- Hold the emptiness for 2 counts.
- Open your mouth again, creating an O with your lips, and repeat.
- Do this for 5-10 rounds.
You should notice a significant change in calming your nervous system and bringing in coolness to your body and mind.
