We know from clinical studies that a one-size-fits-all approach to health does not work. With any protocol, there is always a group of people who respond well and a group that either does not respond or experiences adverse results.
Since health is multi-faceted, what may be optimal for one person might be poison for another. In order to maximize health outcomes, any approach must be individualized and personalized to the specific health profile of that person. In addition, each person must take responsibility, be proactive and engage continually in different approaches to their own health.
Holistic health depends on a range of factors, including but not limited to one’s genetics, living environment, sleep patterns, relaxation habits, exercise routines, diet, nutritional needs, hydration, detoxification, mindset, emotional trauma, economic status, stress factors and more.
The quality of one’s personal relationships, social connections, spiritual life and level of community support are also important determinants of health. All of the above factors are interconnected and essential for understanding underlying causes and managing any health issues.
In addition, biomarkers can be used as indicators of a person’s health status. They reflect how an individual’s genes are being expressed in terms of their own unique lifestyle and the various conditions and circumstances to which their personal environment exposes them.
Indicators such as blood pressure, body fat percentage, the level of glucose or cholesterol in their blood are just some of the more common biomarkers, all of them signals that indicate how genes are being translated into physiological, physical, and mental functions.
When someone experiences stress, gets an infection, eats junk foods, confronts trauma or is exposed to toxins, their genetic expression changes in response, shifting the pattern of biomarkers. The message to their genes is different from the message they would receive when their bodies are in a state of peace.
This indicates that our individual health status is disturbed in response to our environment, current experiences and lifestyle choices. Because we each possess different genetic information, we will each experience disturbances in our health status in a different way. The good news is that our genes are not our fate!
We have the ability to make better choices and control many of the things that can affect our health. This can be regular exercise, stretching, good eating habits, supplementation, proper hydration, having a positive mindset, or activities such as yoga, meditation and other stress relieving practices.
Holistic health or balance within is a personal and individualized state of well being that we can create. When our physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental and soul aspects are all cared for, our quality of life is greatly improved. We expand and up-level in all areas.
