Pitta Tips
- Avoid overexposure to the sun, especially from 10 am – 2 pm, during the hottest part of the day. Stay in the shade and exercise early in the morning, when the air is crisp and cool.
- Go for a swim and/or take a cold shower. It’s a great way to cool off and reduce your core body temperature.
- Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and fluids. In Ayurveda, coconut water is used for its cooling properties. It’s also a great source of the electrolytes you may lose through sweating, making it a great substitute for sports drinks.
- Eat water-rich foods. Seasonal produce like watermelon, cantaloupes, cucumbers
and berries contain water and are easy to digest. They’re the perfect summer food to help you stay cool.
- Minimize spicy, sour, salty,
deep fried and pungent foods, as well as alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants.
- Sip on some peppermint tea and enjoy its cooling effects.
- Choose lighter colored clothing which reflects light. You’ll stay much cooler in white or pastels rather than dark clothes, which have a tendency to trap heat.
- Try aromatherapy and essential oils. Sandalwood and peppermint are used in Ayurveda to lower body temperature.
- Don’t overdo it! Take time to enjoy life. Go on vacation. Take it easy and find ways to relax, meditate and engage in your favorite leisure activities.
