Can you believe it? It’s that time of year again! The Fall season is when most of us are getting back to routines with work, kids, school and schedules. This can sometimes result in added stress and anxiety, but what if you could incorporate a thing or 2 to create balance?

The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, a 5000-year-old system referred to as the “Science of Life” states that most dis-eases are born during the changing of the seasons.

As you say goodbye to summer and start to welcome in the Fall, you can begin to make some simple lifestyle changes to help you better adjust.

In our external environment, we can notice some obvious changes. The air tends to be dry, the wind picks up, and the temperatures begin to cool off with shorter days and longer nights. Our internal landscape and rhythms mirror that of nature’s. Our skin gets drier, the wind correlates to scattered mental energy, and we too begin to cool down.

Seasonal changes can leave us unbalanced and in need of some self-care to maintain immunity, good health, and overall well-being.

Successfully transitioning from the fun-loving summer back into Fall routines can feel challenging, however, with a little awareness you can balance out the transition and set yourself up for good health, with ease.

Connect to the Fall Season

One of the easiest ways is to get outside and go for a walk or bike ride. Take in all the sights and sounds around you. Notice the changing leaves and the beautiful colors beginning to emerge. Enjoy the crisp, cool air, and breathe it all in!

Eat Seasonally

Embrace the flavors of the season by cooking with Fall favorites such as fresh squash, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes and apples.

Start reducing cooling foods such as fruit, raw salads and frozen desserts. Some of the most beneficial foods to incorporate during this season are brown rice, millet, and root vegetables such as carrots, daikon, parsnip, burdock, turnips, beets, pumpkins and squashes. Root veggies are nourishing, help you feel more grounded, and make a nice soup. There’s nothing quite like a bowl of soup to feel nourished and warm.

Stay Hydrated

This keeps your organs functioning properly, your mind sharp and brings balance to the dry and windy temperaments of Fall season.

Get Grounded

Fall is usually a busy time and our minds can get scattered. What is something that grounds you? This could be a simple 1 min. practice and can bring a significant shift.

Go Outside in nature

Check out the leaves, take a hike, or bundle up and watch the ocean waves.

Don’t Skip Meals

If you are feeling stressed, anxious or scattered, a nourishing meal can be very grounding.

Breathe!

Try alternate nostril breathing exercises.

Transitions can sometimes be hard on our bodies and our minds. We must take extra care to stay healthy and vital. By choosing to incorporate one or all of these tips, you can better support and nurture yourself during seasonal changes.
