As we start to get more in tune with our bodies, we begin to notice that we are constantly changing and adapting to live in harmony with nature and the changing seasons.

Did you know that the transitional period between each seasonal change is an important time to support your health? Most diseases are born during the changing of the seasons, therefore you want to take extra care to stay healthy, vital and balanced.

While much of the world gets warmer, the harvest of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs begin to change, and spring rains die down. During this time, your body needs to adjust. By adapting your lifestyle habits to accommodate the arrival of each new season, you can better support and nurture yourself during this time.

The first place to start is by respecting your internal body clock or circadian rhythms so that you are living in sync with the daily cycles of nature. Having regular meal, exercise, wake up and sleep times will help you feel good and keep your system in balance throughout the year.

Next, start to integrate the best foods and tastes for the season. As the weather heats up, your body’s needs change and you may want to favor foods that are more cooling to prevent the build up of heat in your system. Seasonal eating will bring balance and maximize the nutrients and natural needs of your body.

Find ways to unwind, stay cool, relieve stress and keep a clear and calm mind with the self-care practices that are best suited for you. For example, meditation, breath work, yoga, listening to soothing music, journaling, movement and exercise, going for a swim, massage therapy, watching a sunrise and/or sunset, etc.

Practice gratitude and staying present in the moment. Clear your mind of the past and the things you cannot change, and appreciate all the good and abundance around you.

Use aromatherapy oils that are sweet and cooling such as lavender, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, geranium and mint to name a few.

While you can cleanse in any season, doing this in spring takes advantage of the body’s natural inclination to burn and detox fat that has built up from winter. The best time to cleanse, however, is when you have the time to rest and relax through the process, regardless of the season. For some, that may be during the summer. The body’s natural inclination in the summer is to purify the blood, lymph and liver.

As you make some simple lifestyle changes and take a little extra care during this time, you will find it highly beneficial for maintaining strong immunity, good health and overall well-being.

Have fun, embrace the changes and “spring” into the vibrant rhythm of the summer season!
