There is a rhythm with nature that is mirrored inside us;

when we take the time to notice and sync up with nature, we have robust immune systems, balanced digestion, and emotional health.

 Some like it Hot

            Others do not…

If you like learning more about Ayurveda, the links provided throughout the blog go deeper into the elements and tastes.

Each season is governed by a unique element, and as you may have guessed, summer is

associated with fire.   🔥🔥🔥

The season has a dominant element, but also our bodies and food. 😎 🍎

Inside of us, fire is the subtle energy that controls our metabolism, and digests our food, it is how we understand, our perception, conversion, metabolism, and the power behind transformation.

If you are already fiery by nature, meaning dominate in the fire element, and you add summer/heat from outside to the mix, it can cause many physical and mental reactions.

Too much fire element in our Bodies looks like excessive body heat, sweating, sunburn, skin rashes, acne, heartburn, stomach acidity, ulcers, exhaustion, diarrhea, etc.

Too much fire in our Minds includes irritability, frustration, impatience, easily annoyed, short temperedness, competitiveness, egoism, envy, quick-to-anger, etc.

Foods have qualities to them, and there are specific foods that help cool us down! An easy example would be the hot sauce that heats us and fruits, avocados, and cucumbers; (cool as a cucumber), cool us! 🥑 🍉 🥒

It’s nature’s gift! 🙏🏼

Do you notice that during summer, your body naturally wants cooler foods?  🍉 🥗

This is the best time of year to enjoy fresh fruits and salads, add cooling herbs to your dishes like mint, cilantro, and fresh basil. It’s the perfect time to indulge in sweet dairy products if it agrees with you, such as milk, butter, ghee, cottage cheese, fresh homemade yogurt, and ice cream on occasion.

Put down the hot sauce and avoid spicy. 🌶 You may notice that you are not drawn to spicy right now, which means you are responding intuitively to the seasons. Instead, favor more of the sweet taste, which may not be what you think; it’s not candy sweet, more like fruits, rice, dairy, and meats.

If you feel irritable or angry, 😡 look at the intensity levels of your activities that add to the heat and bring in more hammocks, water sports, and relaxation. Skip the hot yoga class for now and go for a surf 🏄 or swim instead, which is more effective at soothing the summer heat.

By living in harmony with nature’s cycles and adjusting your lifestyle and habits to accommodate the arrival of each new season, you can support an improved state of balance throughout the year.

Once you tune in, you may find it feels natural!

What are you doing to stay cool?
